Sophie Borney

I have a dual relationship with dance: it is everything and nothing at the same time. Perhaps that is also where its beauty lies, how something so captivating can also be so ephemeral. In its briefness, it holds immense power.

Sophie Borney graduated in 2021 from the Music and Arts University of Vienna, where her perspective on the dance world was profoundly shaped by her teacher Esther Balfe. While still a student, she danced for the Royal Opera House and spent a semester abroad at the Amsterdam University of the Arts. From 2021 to 2025, she was a member of the company Tanz_Kassel, where she found deep resonance with the works of Liliana Barros, Eyal Dadon, Kristel van Issum, Sita Ostheimer and Andrea Peña, each one digging in a unique way in a universe of movement quality and performative presence. Sophie develops her artistic identity also through independent work, choreographing and performing in different multidisciplinary projects.
