For me, dance is a way of paying attention. In a culture that often values only what is tangible and measurable, dance draws me toward the intuitive, the ephemeral, and the in-between. I let dance lead me through life — to move, sense, listen, and dream all at once.
Samuel (he/him) is a British-born dancer and performer whose artistic practice spans performance, choreography, rehearsal directing, teaching, mentorship and podcast production. After training at the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance and London Contemporary Dance School, Samuel began his professional career as an apprentice with Dance Apprentice Network aCross Europe (2007–2009), a formative interdisciplinary programme that shaped his early encounters with artists including William Forsythe, Wayne McGregor, Frédéric Flamand and Angelin Preljocaj.
Since 2009, Samuel has been based primarily in Scandinavia, where he performed for many years in the ensemble of Skånes Dansteater in Malmö, alongside freelance projects throughout Europe. As both a company member and freelance artist, Samuel has collaborated and created works with artists including Tilman O’Donnell, Marina Mascarell, Marcos Morau, Heidi Vierthaler, Felix Landerer, Rachel Tess, Anouk van Dijk, Martin Forsberg, Theo Clinkard, and Ben Wright. Alongside his performance work, Samuel has also produced podcasts, focusing on demystifying contemporary dance and expanding access to its practices through conversations about creative process. Samuel’s ongoing Somatic Movement Education through the School for Body-Mind Centering reflects a continued commitment to inclusive, embodied practices while opening further questions around embodiment, sensing, and the politics of how we move — and are moved.
